Hosted by Laumeier, participants will visit Faust Park, site of the recently renovated 1894 “African School No. 4,” one of the oldest surviving one-room schoolhouse for African Americans in Missouri. Visitors will learn about its founding history, in which Black families could request to have a school built for their children. Tim Emmons from Faust Park will lead the tour and Laumeier Curator, Dana Turkovic and Karen Mullen, Curator of Education will also be available to facilitate conversation and connections to Hugh Hayden’s exhibition American Vernacular at Laumeier Sculpture Park.
